Is it ok to wake a sleeping baby?

You may be told from your parents or grandparents that you should NEVER wake a sleeping baby.....this is simply not true. Yes it is OK to wake a sleeping baby.

Some babies thrive having lots of sleep in the day, however most babies respond well to a sleep routine. Having a nap schedule that suits you both can be a game changer when dealing with constant night wakings.

There are gentle ways to help encourage your little one to wake naturally, such as -

  • Letting daylight in their room, if they nap in their cot

  • Removing their sleeping bag or unzipping it to let fresh air gently wake them

  • If contact napping, then gently putting baby down next to you and wake them with a little cuddle, rub or kiss (this was my favourite way to wake my boys)
